Kindy and Preschool

Our Kindy and Preschool rooms has 20 children each with 2 educators. Our group leader has a diploma in early childhood education and care and our assistants have a certificate III in early childhood education and care.

All of our Kindy and Preschool educators have a valid working with children check, a first aid certificate, emergency asthma training and anaphylaxis management training. All educators attend regular professional development sessions to reflect on their pedagogical practices and learn new innovative ways to educate young children.

Our Kindy and Preschool outdoor play space provides children with the opportunity to develop and learn about sustainable practices and interact with the natural environment.

School Readiness

We run a school readiness program throughout the year, including school holidays which is overseen by our Early Childhood Teacher. Our program is influenced by Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory (Bodrova & Leong , 2006) where educators play an active role in children's learning and co-construct with the children.

We encourage children to be introduced to literacy and numeracy concepts through playful interactions and then lead on to more formal learning when they are ready.

Our school readiness program helps children to be prepared for formal schooling. In conjunction with the Belonging, being and becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) are learning to be responsible for their own physical health and well-being (DEEWR, 2009).

What is school readiness?

Observations and curriculum planning

At Next Generation we provide an emergent curriculum which is child originated and educator framed which arises from children’s interests. In the Kindy and Preschool rooms, children participate in child initiated projects which offer a flexible approach to learning.

Children are observed on a regular basis where educators record their ideas and interests. The educators then choose an experience that they feel the child will enjoy and encourage their learning to develop further.

Each enrolled child will receive a portfolio detailing their learning journey and presenting their observations, work samples and audio/visual records.

Extracurricular Activities

We have extracurricular activities for our enrolled children at no extra cost. The children are free to choose if they would like to participate in these experiences.

Our Kindy and Preschool children have music lessons once a week with Jill Hargraves and we have purchase rights to the Jiggle Jam fitness program. The National Quality Standard (NQS) quality area six encourages partnerships and collaboration with community organisations (ACECQA, 2013).
